Job Title: Administrative Assistant

Work Schedule:

30 hours per week

Senior Pastor



The mission of Cornelia UMC is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The ministry of the Administrative Assistant shall be consistent with the principles of the Holy Bible, and the philosophies of the United Methodist Church as outlined in the Book of Discipline. The Administrative Assistant shall work under the guidance of the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee and report directly to the Senior Pastor.

  • Believe in a living and loving God; proclaim Jesus as personal Savior; seek guidance and empowerment from the Holy Spirit (a background in United Methodist or Wesleyan theology is preferred).

  • Participate in staff meetings and committee meetings as requested.



  • Office – 15 hours

    • Provide administrative support to the Senior Pastor.

    • Function as the receptionist and manage the phone system for messages.

    • Monitor the church email.

    • Prepare and distribute church bulletins

    • Maintain church keys and log

    • Maintain the church calendar.

      • Scheduling events

      • Church bus/van scheduling

      • Facilities scheduling

      • Send out reminders for church meetings

    • Maintain and update Membership Files (with aid of membership secretary) and issue Baptism, Transfer, and Marriage Certificates

    • Maintain Memorial Role

    • Place orders for Custodian

    • Maintain list of vendors and supply organizations

    • Maintain technology procedures and manuals

    • Complete or assist in completing and forms or reports such as:

      • Government Forms

      • North Georgia Conference forms

      • Vital Signs

      • End of Year Reports

  • Finance – 10 Hours

    • Receive monies from general and special sources, recording same and making timely deposits.

    • Post contributions weekly.

    • Remit special offering monies to the appropriate organization or persons in a timely manner.

    • Prepare and issue checks to cover all expenses of the church in a timely manner upon receiving proper approval including appropriate processing of bill for payment.

    • Prepare payroll to be sent to outside source under the direction of the Senior Pastor and/or Staff Parish Relations Committee

    • Perform bank account reconciliations for all accounts monthly

    • Prepare an accurate financial statement for the Finance Committee and Church Council as directed by the finance committee chair (monthly)

    • Maintain chart of Accounts, Fund Descriptions, and Budget in accounting

    • Supply the finance committee chair with regular stewardship reports

    • Prepare and distribute giving statements and other statements and correspondence as directed by the finance committee chair or the Senior Pastor

  • Social Media/Communication – 5 hours

    • Maintain church website

    • Maintain church social media pages

    • Maintain Prayer Net

    • Maintain Weekly Email

  • Any other reasonable duties assigned by the Senior Pastor or Staff Parish Relations Committee.


This job description may occasionally be updated at the discretion of the Senior Pastor and/or the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee. In the event this position is vacated, a two-week minimum advance notice is required to avoid forfeiture of pay.
